Protecting Your Program While Building Strong Family Partnerships
GCCA Virtual Town Hall | September 29 | Noon ET
Child care leaders make important decisions every day involving families, children, staff, licensing, and the overall health of their business. Join GCCA and attorney Debbie Ausburn for a practical discussion designed to help providers respond with confidence when situations become complicated.
Debbie will share guidance on challenging family situations, DECAL investigations, ADA questions, custody concerns, complaints, demand letters, and other legal issues that may place a program at risk. Members will also have time to ask questions and learn practical steps they can use to better protect their programs.
During the second part of the Town Hall, GCCA will provide important business, industry, advocacy, and association updates to help members stay informed, prepare for changes, and make strong decisions for their programs.
This 60-minute Town Hall will include:
- 30–45 minutes of legal guidance and member Q&A with Debbie Ausburn
- 15–30 minutes of GCCA business, industry, advocacy, and member updates
Meet Our Speaker
Debbie Ausburn is an attorney with Chalmers, Adams, Backer & Wallen, LLC and is a proud member of GCCA. Debbie has dedicated more than 40 years to serving youth-serving organizations. A former social worker, criminal prosecutor, and member of the Georgia Department of Human Resources governing board, Debbie brings a unique perspective that combines legal expertise with a deep understanding of child-serving programs.
Today, she represents child care centers, schools, and nonprofit organizations in matters involving licensing, child safety, internal investigations, regulatory compliance, and litigation. She is especially well known for helping providers navigate DECAL investigations, reduce legal risk, and respond confidently to challenging situations.
Debbie often says her job is to "fight with DECAL and state agencies for a living," but she especially enjoys working with child care providers because of their commitment to children, families, and their communities. Her practical, straightforward approach makes complex legal topics easy to understand and apply.
